Atte Ka Halwa – Easy Indian Dessert

Yearning for an easy to make dessert after a warm hearty lunch? I recommend trying this recipe out.

Atta halwa/sheera is one of the simplest and modest desserts you could have in any season, especially during monsoons & winters. You’ll find authentic style atta halwa in North Indian homes as it’s prepared on several occasions whether it’s an auspicious one or just your regular day.

It’s also served in Gurudwaras as Kada Prasad/Prashad. The moment you take a bite, you’ll feel a strange sense of calmness through your mind that makes you smile.

All you need are three main ingredients and you’ll be good to go.

Ingredients (4-5 servings)

1 cup atta (whole wheat flour)

½ cup ghee (clarified butter)

½ cup sugar

3 cups hot water

2-3 sliced almonds

  • Roast atta (whole wheat flour) and ghee (clarified butter) in a deep vessel (preferably kadai) and stir well till the flour begins to change its color. Keep the flame on medium-low.
  • Add sugar and mix well. Stir continuously so that it gets evenly cooked.
  • When the mixture turns dark brown, add hot water little by little, stirring simultaneously, till it comes to a smooth consistency and the mixture starts leaving the pan.
  • Add in your sliced almonds. Mix well. Leave some for garnish.
  • Tastes best when served hot.

Happy Cooking 🙂
